McAfee Antivirus is an antivirus program that has been created and maintained by McAfee Inc. its 2010 version includes antivirus, firewall and antispyware. More specifically, it contains on-access file scanner, Inbound and outbound firewall protection, spyware protection, daily definition updates, x-ray root kit detection, site advisor which tells you whether the site can be trusted or not, active protection which monitors whether your system is infected by any virus by looking for any unusual activity in real time and contacts McAfee labs to check whether the file is a threat.

Mcafee has also developed its VirusScan for Mac 8.6. It has Leopard Compatibility; it will run on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Mac computers natively, it can scan every file being accessed from or written to the machine and will blocks the file if it is infectious. This scanner can be configured to scan on Read Only, Write only or both. You can also configure it to scan files on network volumes. It can scan Apple Mail messages for any infections. You can access this feature either through On Demand Scanner or On Access Scanner.

Mcafee new version for Mac 8.6.1 has support for updating virus signatures and scanning engine, support for proxy server authentication and it had added the Minimum Escalation Requirements tool.
